New Years Eve Day and Night - Toy Story Marathon

• We do not let our kids watch very much TV, but today was an exception. Mica asked his usual, "Can I watch Toy Story 3?"


• I answered, "Not right now Mica. Because today we're going to have a Toy Story marathon!"


• He didn't know what marathon meant, so I had to explain.


• We watched Toy Story 1 in the morning, Toy Story 2 after the boy's nap and Toy Story 3 during supper and before bed. We hardly ever let them eat and watch TV at the same time!


• Mica enjoyed the marathon. Isaak likes Toy Story, but isn't a huge TV kid. He could take it or leave it.

• Mica did something that surprised both Daddy and I!


• He got up off the love seat and moved over to the chair. Not a big deal, right? We asked him why he moved? He said, "Because I don't want to be in your way Daddy!" 


• Mica usually thinks of himself mainly. We told him how proud we were of him to think of Daddy! 


• Mica's the type of kid that if he hurts another kid, he'll say, "Sorry" really fast and run off. We've seen a lot of growth with Mica in this last year!

Daring - No Diaper

• Isaak's been going on this diaper strike. He'll turn 3 years the middle of May. 


• I've been setting him on the toilet since he turned 1. 


• I never treated it like a do or die thing. 


• He's been standing to go. He wants to do everything himself!


• He's gone back and forth this whole time.


• He sometimes doesn't want to stop playing to go potty. I have found new tactics to get him to go. Like I say, "Hey Isaak do you want to go look in the mirror?",  "Isaak do you want to go make bubbles in the toilet?", "Lets go look at some pictures in the hallway." Anything to get him in the bathroom.


• There are a few things in my mind that get in the way of potty training:

1. Cutting teeth. Both of our kids cut teeth on the later side.


2. Getting sick.


3. Pull-Up's.


4. Lack of consistency.

• Isaak would do great with training; then he'd get sick, or cut a tooth. Downhill he'd go, and we'd have to help him back up. Much like how they eat well for a week, and then go through a time where they just don't eat much because they aren't growing.


• Pull-Up's are wonderful because the other people that watch him have carpet. Many errands are run throughout the day where Isaak is in a car seat. At home he wears underwear. We have wood floors. Pull-Up's are horrible because toddlers feel like they are wearing a diaper; they pee in them. There lacks the consistency.

• Well Isaak's told us that he doesn't want to wear a diaper anymore {even at night}. We're being super daring, and we're giving him what he wants {no diaper}. 


• He has a toddler bed, so it's a plastic covered mattress. I put down a pee pad, crib sheet, pee pad, crib sheet. That way when he has an accident in the middle of the night I can hopefully remove the top two layers instead of make a bed. 


• This is something new, so we will see how the no diaper thing goes. Last night I went in at 4 am, and he was wet and cold. He didn't wake up after peeing his pants. It may take awhile, and lots of laundry.

Goodbye, Farewell....

What a year it has been. Looking back over it via the BBC news I am shocked to see just how many big stories there were I had forgotten and then the 'worst' Winter since records began. Still it's been memorable for many other reasons, personal reasons;  all of you will have very different versions of the same 12 months- I sincerely hope that for you, dear reader, you can look back on the year with some fondness, with lessons learnt and memories to cherish.

For me it has been jam packed. It started with a marriage where I finally got my dream of being a Bridesmaid (love to you A and D). We moved into Mamma G's for 9 months ('thank you' is never going to a big enough word) and watched our new home take form. I opened up an Etsy shop and started to sell my personal view of the world and have made some beautiful new friends along the way. I retreated somewhat and became a little more depressed and anxious, not even going to the Allotment about which this blog is supposed to be about. We moved into the new house, with new hopes and dreams that are slowly showing themselves to be achievable with time and effort. Two healthy babies were born into our close-friend circle. And then it ended with my new psychologist telling me that talking therapy was doing me more harm than good ~ my therapy is to be writing, photography, blogging, yoga, enjoying the beauty of Nature and simply (easier written than done!) being Me. Which brings me right back to you again :)

My 2010 will be primarily remembered for the joy of a new home with my Hubby. But I could not have got to this last evening without YOU. You have supported me, encouraged me, shared your lives with me and generally been little internet guardians, gently nudging me forwards whilst showing me that where I am in life is where I am meant to be. I can not thank you enough, I don't know how. So a simple but very humble bow of the head, hand to the heart and 'Namaste'.

May the next year be a continuation of growth, of joyfulness and good health in your path through life; may it also be the same for me.

P.S. Andrew, you are my everything.....xxx

The Top Ten Whedonverse Moments of 2010

Majors spoilers for Season 8 if you're not completely caught up...

Time really flies when you're having a Whedon-filled year and this one was no exception! Over the course of the year, we conducted 35 interviews and published tons of exclusive content and images. But well beyond this place we call our home, the fandom was hit with a slew of information and news this year, both good and bad.

Here's a look back at our Top Ten Whedonverse Moments of the year. Happy New Year to all!

#1 - The Death of Rupert Giles
The wounds are still fresh, but we couldn't leave 2010 behind without acknowledging our favorite Watcher. Giles is a beloved character here at Buffyfest and he will be sorely missed.

#2 - San Diego Comic Con
Seriously, no words can express this experience. There was laughing and excitement one minute and then something akin to four deers caught in the headlights another. No matter what, the hard work paid off because we got to mix and mingle with the "who's who" of the Whedonverse.

#3 - Twilight-Gate
The spoiler heard round the world. That is all.

#4 - Jane Espenson Interview
We were humbled when Ms. Espenson talked with us about all things Buffy and to be honest, we're still feeling a little gitty in the after-glow of that interview.

#5 - Buffyfest 2010
This year we gambled it up with kittens, of course! The annual Buffyfest celebration was "high stakes" with all the usual fun, food and a dash of debauchery for good measure.

#6 - Other Cons without Michelle (NYCC, Big Apple Con, and Philly Comic Con)
It was a busy year for us as we navigated the Convention scene all along the northeastern sea board. With Michelle living in Sunny Los Angeles, these had to be handled East Coast style by Tara and Bits.

#7 - License-Gate IDW has treated Angel well, but with the news of the move to Dark Horse next year, Angel's unlife will be in the hands of 2011's Season 9 umbrella. It was another one of those "-gates" that rocked the fandom hard.

#8 - Joss and The Avengers
The demise of Dollhouse opened the door for Joss's huge directorial debut on The Avengers. We broke the news in San Diego and can't wait to see what Joss has in store for this elite super hero bunch. We still think Buffy could kick all their asses. 

#9 - Space Sex
It was certainly something to talk about. Well, it was porn on paper. Buffy and Angel porn on paper. In space.

#10 - Buffy Movie Reboot
It's possible that by this time next year, the reboot release will be a rumor of the past, but no matter how you feel about this news, shocked or awed, a big screen Buffy movie has to make it on this list. Funny thing is that a year and a half before this news broke, we did our very own recast of a Whedonless Buffy movie.

Telemarketers and Other Pesky Callers

• I realized tonight that one way to deal with telemarketers and other pesky callers is to hand the phone over to Isaak. 


• He was begging to talk on the phone anyhow! Why not give the phone over to someone who really wants to talk to them?


• Isaak {who is 2 1/2 years old} kept saying for 3 or so minutes, "No I Isaak Jaxon Apel!" to the pesky caller over and over again. 


• I couldn't control my laughter!

It's Nice Outside!

• It's 59 degrees outside! Not December weather for Omaha, Nebraska that's for sure!


• I just went fast walking around the school. I got all the way around this time; five laps. The last week or so I've been unable to go out, or it was snowy on the backside of the building.

• Last year it seemed as though snow and ice were everywhere. Grandma Spiehs got her ankle fused and I broke my foot. It was a horrible winter.!


• Snow will be traveling in soon enough I'm sure.

Rumor Control: The Beckhams Will NOT be Moving to NYC

Now that was a rumor I doubted from the very beginning!

Despite reports that soccer star David Beckham and wife Victoria are looking to move to Manhattan, the couple's publicists told the NY Daily News they have no plans to become New Yorkers anytime soon.

"There is no truth to the story," reps for both David and Victoria told the Daily News Wednesday.

David Files Legal Action Against Prostitute Irma Nici

A few months ago we learned about the scandalous claims made by prostitue Irma Amici saying that she had an affair with David Beckham. We also learned that Beckham denied the story and filed legal action against her... to which she turned around and did the same.

To add to his lawsuit, David has filed a declaration to a Los Angeles court in his $25 million battle against Nici and the publishers of In Touch magazine: "Irma Nici's statements have caused me and my family great anguish and emotional distress, and have adversely affected both my personal and professional life."

Celebrities in VB: Kim Yun Jin in Victoria Beckham Fall 2010

Korean actress Kim Yun Jin wore the metallic Asymmetric Corset dress recently. If you notice, she did a bit of self modification in how she wore it. Instead of wearing the dress over her shoulder as it was presented on the runway, she decided to turn it into a tube dress. From the front, it actually doesn't look half bad, but the backside view seems to be a bit odd with the extra material just kind of hanging there.

Celebrities in VB: Lucy Liu in 'Marry Me' Wearing Victoria Beckham Fall 2010

In the Lifetime movie, Marry Me, Lucy Liu's character Rae wears the lovely (and one of my personal faves) teal drape front fitted dress, #53, from Victoria's fall 2010 collection.

In an interview with Lucy, she discusses the wardrobe and had this to say:

"There’s a gorgeous teal blue, greenish Victoria Beckham dress. It fit so well and it was pretty comfortable to wear. We ended up using that a lot in the movie. It’s my character’s basic style.”

The Beckhams Go Skiing... Indoors!

David and Victoria Beckham were spotted on a pre-Christmas indoor ski trip with their sons at The Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead to the north of London on December 23rd.

One of the Beckham's sons, Romeo, had a ski lesson, while Brooklyn enjoyed some free skiing on the main slope.

"It was a family visit and The Snow Centre worked closely with the Beckham's security people to ensure it was a low-key and family day out for them all," Peter Gillespie the snowsports director at The Snow Centre has confirmed to PlanetSKI.

"David was a perfect gentleman and though he didn't ski himself he watched the boys from the side," adds Gillespie. "Victoria had a coffee in the bar that overlooks the slopes."

Victoria Congratulates New Dad Elton John

It seems that no-one was more thrilled about Elton John's baby news than Victoria Beckham who was among the first to send her congratulations to the singer and his partner David Furnish when they became parents on Christmas day.

"David and I are absolutely thrilled for Elton and David," said Victoria. "They have so much love to give and will be wonderful parents."

It seems that Victoria may be asked to be godmother to Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. The 62-year-old singer is godfather to her 11-year-old son Brooklyn.
