Three Year Appointment

Isaak had his 3 year appointment yesterday. Mica said twice, "Well I'm glad I don't have to go to get shots! Mommy will Isaak have to get shots? If so I don't want to watch!" Way to rub it in Isaak's face Mica. I just said, "I don't know if Isaak will get shots; I let the doctor make those decisions. Remember shots are not bad, we get them to help us."

Isaak put on the funky 3D glasses to see and tell his shapes. He wouldn't say them. Then he was playing with this toy and said, "Look Mommy a square. Look Mommy a circle." I told the nurse to listen.

This 3 year old is 38.5" tall, which is 69.03%. He's tall! He is 32 pounds and 3.2 ounces, which is 56.28%. The doctor says he weighs perfectly for his height. Mica was always tall, yet skinnier then Isaak!

Isaak got his last meningitis shot and his finger pricked to check for lead. He did good! He barely cried. Then this morning he was limping. Daddy wanted to know why he was limping. I knew it was from his shot. Isaak likes to milk attention. :)

Things we have to watch out for: His birthmark. He has one on his spine. If it gets darker, it's a concern. The doctor says with 2nd children they are often times more lazy then the first. Isaak tends to be lazy with activity sometimes. More so then with Mica.

And the Doctor Said...

Mica has perfect vision, perfect hearing and is doing just fine.

He weighs 46 pounds 3.2 ounces. 64.85% His weight has gone up in percentile. He is still long and skinny!

He is 46.75" tall. 87.36% He'll be one of the tallest in his class I'm sure.

Only Concerns for the Doc:

  • He has a mole on his back that we have to watch. Doctor says it's fine right now. If it gets bigger then a pencil eraser then we have to take him in to a dermatologist.

  • Doctor Harrison thought he might have to go through speech therapy with his past history. I don't think so. No one ever has trouble understanding Mica. He's compensated really well with having a tongue that is not perfect. Mr. Mica was born with a cyst under his tongue. We've tried opting him into the school district speech therapy early; he tested out of it.

Only Concern for Mica:

  • Mica was stoked that he was going to go to the doctor and not have to get a shot. I told him, "Sorry honey, you probably will have to get a few shots."

  • I kept explaining how shots are good. Grandma Spiehs had Polio, and Mica gets a shot to prevent that.

  • Mica was pretty quiet at the doctor's office.

  • When the nurse came in to give him his shots, Mica kept saying that he wasn't ready.

  • It ended with us having to hold him down and a few tears.

Wordless Wednesday - Dentist and Doctor

It was Isaak's first trip to the dentist. We read books about going to the dentist and role played to get him prepared. He was scared at first! He got teary eyed. He certainly warmed up after she showed him the dentist tools. He even sat still enough to get x-rays.

Mica went to the dentist too. I called them to ask if he could go? He went to the doctor this morning, and we found he has an ear infection and bronchitis. They wear a mask and gloves, so it wasn't a concern for them. As long as he was up for it. He was excited to go to the dentist.

By the way Mica's informed us that kids have 20 teeth and adults have 200.

Then there was the doctor this morning. Isaak had an ear infection last week. Since Mica's cough was so bad, the doctor put him on a nebulizer and both kids are on antibiotics.

Doctor

  • I went to the doctor on Friday.

  • On Thursday night it was getting difficult to swallow. I had a few white speckles in the back of my throat.

  • I thought I had strep throat.

  • On Friday I taught class, so I didn't want to miss. I decided to go for lecture and call the doctor office right after that.

  • As soon as I called the doctor's office, they said they could get me in as long as I could make it to their office in 10 minutes. I left my class, and went to the doctor.

  • Of course it had to be snowing outside. Part of that 10 minutes was clearing off my car.

  • The nurse did a throat culture before the doctor even came in.

  • The culture was negative. My doctor gave me an antibiotic.

  • I went back to work.

  • Once I got home, I could barely talk and my ears felt plugged.

  • The boy's and I cuddled.
